Offsite tape storage has been one of the cornerstones for many businesses in terms of disaster recovery plans, and with the advent of increasing legal obligations to shareholders it is still a key way of protecting your business. This article provides an overview of why tape backup tape is still a viable option.

The purpose of using offsite tape storage is to maintain a recoverable copy of your IT systems in a location outside of your main place of business in case some disaster happens to the company. Disasters such as an over voltage event to the building or flooding following a burst water main can rapidly result in all your computer systems going down.

Tape storage has traditionally been the favored way of backing up system in spite of how slow it can be to generate backups and restore from tape. However, backup tape is reliable, safe and is very cheap currently so it is easy to maintain several generations of internal systems at a relatively low cost.

When looking at choosing an offsite tape storage facility/company there are a couple of things to look out for. The first is any legal obligations that may exist regarding the data protection of your data. If your backup tapes are storing public information (e.g. government systems) then the offsite tape storage facility will need to comply with these regulations.

Secondly, the location of the facility is critical to your disaster recovery plan. It needs to be far enough away so that it won’t be affected by the same climactic conditions that could impact your firm, while still near enough to drive should you need to retrieve backup tapes in a lower severity incident (e.g. to recover lost data following a power out).

Lastly, you should always test out the offsite tape storage facility with a dummy run restore from tapes to a main or auxiliary back up system. There is nothing worse than finding out your backup tapes are not usable with your existing tape reading devices.

IT Training Jobs may sound easy especially if you have the right training for this. Perhaps you have taken already several computer IT courses but have you conducted IT computer training? It is one thing to know the software, to teach that software is another thing.

If you plan on working with IT Training Jobs having computer training is not sufficient. You also have to know how to train somebody else. Usually, first-time teachers would imitate how they were taught when they took computer courses. Then you can probably revise the teaching method, is it clear enough to understand? Does it engage the students to participate? Are there enough samples to show? You have to prepare all these before you conduct your lessons.

What usually occurs with IT training is that you divide the areas to be covered per week. And so you only concentrate on one area at a time. Do not give them too much information as the brain could only process so much of it at a time. Give them handout which summarizes what they have learned for that class and give them exercise to make them use those tools. You also have to give them a homework, where they could practice their newfound skills and possibly explore more tools.

IT training could be stressful especially if you are a fast learner. You might get frustrated with students who cannot seem to follow your instructions. But have you checked how you relayed the information to your student. Maybe people who took IT courses before would understand certain jargons, but what about those who are handling computers for the first time? How can you explain to them without overwhelming them.

Computer data could be overwhelming. And so, you have to start by comparing situations with things that they may be able to understand. For example in a Adobe Illustrator tutorial, most students are more familiar with Photoshop, and so you can probably start by explaining, how the tools are similar from the Photoshop, then you can move on to its differences.

If you are not conducting one to one training then you might find that students would opt to play games or check their email during classes. Perhaps you can turn the wi-fi off unless it is really necessary. Also, with so many people using the computers at once, downloading pictures might take a long time. If you need some pictures or data, you have to ask your students to bring them the following week so you do not waste time.

IT Training Jobs like any other job, is difficult. But expecting problems or situations would help you be more prepared on conducting your classes.

One of the newest health problems in the past few decades has been the repetitive strain injuries brought about by new technologies. The early keyboards and mice were not really created with a lot of thought towards what the long term effects would be on the people that used them. They have come a long way since then, have a much more ergonomic design. But, if your still feeling discomfort from using the latest bevy of tech gadgets, then I would suggest spending a bit of time with some online massage schools. Massage is a great non-invasive way to dull or eliminate any aches and pains introduced by the technology in your life. The top massage schools online are producing a new batch of graduates that are sure to know how best to deal with the latest tech health problems, since they would have grown up in that age.

I remember having a discussion with a fellow co-worker a while ago about how convoluted the current state of software evolution has become. Well, I wasn’t actually having the conversation, more like I was over hearing the conversation a couple of other IT software workers were having. It went something like this. The old school technology guy, thought the current state of computers had too many layers involved in it. I think this guy was probably used to programming in assembler, and didn’t like all the levels of software that existed between his mind, and the hardware of the computer. It’s kind of true when you think of it. There are so many different pieces of software that are involved in the smallest of computer operations. What’s actually really scary about this story, is that the conversation I’m relating to you here took place during one of my college co-op placements. That’s like over twenty years ago. Why I remember it, I don’t know, but just to put it in perspective, the computer machine he was talking about was an old Amiga home computer. Just imagine how much further things have progressed since then! I can’t wait to see what happens in the next few years.
