Of all the addictions I’ve ever had, I must admit, that my love of gadgets has to be about the strongest. It never ceases to amaze me, the amount of cool stuff that can be crammed into electronic circuit boards. Recently, I read some electronic cigarette reviews and I was somewhat intrigued. My first thought initially, was that this is another product like the patch to help people stop smoking. And, why else would someone come up with such a thing. They do deliver nicotine, but they do it without the harmful smoke that normally accompanies most cigarettes. They use a kind of mist and the nicotine is breathed in with the the nicotine in a vaporized format. I suppose, that has to be an improvement over the normal cigarettes, but still not the healthiest activity you can find to fill your time.
The government and various health and food boards, like the FDA seem to be still in the process of deciding how to classify the product. They don’t know whether to label the product a medicinal cessation aid, or to categorize it under tobacco product. Personally, I think if it helps people quite the nasty habit of smoking then it’s great. I must admit, though that the companies selling these things do need to be regulated. They were adding flavors to some of them to make them more palatable to consumers. Personally, I think having a chocolate flavored cigarette is just wrong, if it actually encourages younger people to try these products just for the taste. Especially if they’ve never smoked before. I think, these products should be aimed at getting people to quit smoking completely, and shouldn’t be considered a life long crutch. As long as the level of nicotine can be gradually decreased with them, then it should work.
